In January, the University of Zaragoza joined the Spanish Network of Excellence in Cybersecurity Research (RENIC).
The University of Zaragoza is a public institution of research and higher education at the service of society, which combines a tradition of five centuries of history (it was created in 1542) with the updating of its teaching training. The University of Zaragoza is generalist and offers courses in all areas: Arts and Humanities, Experimental Sciences, Health Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences and Engineering and Architecture.
It organises its research activity through its own research institutes, mixed or affiliated institutes, as well as through research groups of recognised national and international prestige.
In order to strengthen its relations with companies and institutions, it has a Research Results Transfer Office (OTRI), and is the leading Spanish university in terms of the number of institutional and company chairs.
Its international commitment is demonstrated through mobility programmes, double degree programmes, bilateral and multilateral agreements, research projects and university development cooperation projects in the five continents. It is part of the European university UNITA-Universitas Montium, together with the universities of Turin (Italy), Pau and Pays del Adour, and Savoy Montblanc (France), West Timisoara (Romania) and Beira Interior (Portugal).
The University of Aragon has joined through the following research groups: Communications Networks and Information Technologies R&D Group, Zaragoza Computer Architecture R&D Group, and Distributed Computing R&D Group.
The three research groups are research groups attached to the University Institute for Engineering Research of Aragon and recognised by the Government of Aragon as reference groups, with researchers from the Department of Electronic Engineering and Communications and the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Zaragoza. All of them have research experience in the field of cybersecurity, leading and participating in numerous local, national and international projects in this area. Their main interest is to provide, contemplate and improve cybersecurity aspects applied in their domains of knowledge and lines of research.
