RENIC is present at JNIC2023

The VIII Spanish Conference on Cybersecurity Research (JNIC2023) organized by atlanTTic (University of Vigo) and Gradiant (foundation) with the collaboration of the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) took place in Vigo from June 21 to 23. As has been common throughout the last editions, RENIC is among the sponsors of the event.

With the aim of promoting research in the field of Cybersecurity, RENIC convened the V Edition of Awards for the best Doctoral Thesis and the best Master's Thesis in Cybersecurity, making its delivery on the last day of the day to:

  • Juan E. Rubio from the University of Malaga for his Doctoral Thesis entitled: "Analysis and Design of Security Mechanisms in the Context of Advanced Persistent Threats Against Critical Infrastructures".
  • Paula López González of the University of Seville for her Master's Thesis based on feature models to validate and diagnose the configuration of a client-server biometric authentication and identification system.

In conjunction with this awards ceremony, special recognition for his career and involvement in the Network was given to Javier Lopez for his work as president of RENIC from 2018 to 2022 and to Juan Diez for his work promoting the network from INCIBE.

Javier López

Professor of Telematics Engineering at the University of Malaga since 2009 after qualification process. He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering and a degree in Computer Science from the University of Malaga. Before joining the university he worked in the company Acerinox as a Systems Analyst in the Department of Industrial Informatics.

His research has been developed in the field of Cybersecurity. As director of the research group NICS Lab he has directed more than fifty projects and research contracts in this area. He has published almost a hundred articles in international journals of impact (JCR), and has (co-)directed 16 doctoral theses. His career includes several research stays in the United States (Yale University, University Wisconsin-Milwaukee), Japan (University of Tsukuba) and Australia (Queensland University of Technology).

Juan Díez

Master Degree in Computer Science by University of León, and certified as PMP (PMI), CISA and CISM (ISACA), CISSP (ISC2), CEH (EC-Council), CSM (Scrum Alliance) and others.

He works as Project Leader with more than 18 years of experience on IT projects, the last 11 years in the Information Security / Cybersecurity field.

Currently, he is responsible for cybersecurity at INCIBE-CERT for the strategic sectors of Health, Food and Research.
